Nothing Cool To Be Had March 17, 2006

Thrifting around here is the pits. The only thrift shop in my town is our local Goodwill. A good place for clothes to cut up, but if you are on the lookout for vintage fabric, towels, dishes, etc., well then, you lose. Every time I go there I am disappointed. I was inspired by this post over at Thrift Craft to make some stuffies out of old towels, did I find anything at Goodwill? That’s a big NO good buddy. Not a thing. And I figured out why. This is a pretty affluent area. When people around here get rid of stuff, it is newer stuff. They got rid of their old stuff long ago. So for people like me who thinks that old = cool as far as housewares go, I strike out. At least my shopping expedition of Wednesday night wasn’t a total loss. I bought a ton of fabric at Hobby Lobby along with some fusable interfacing, so my first “stiff” bags will be made soon. Just honing the ole skills, as soon as I teach myself to install zippers I will begin getting stock together to sell. In the meantime, isn’t that Hostess cupcake bag cool? I may have to make one for myself.
